Russell Westbrook Landing Spots By: Ryan Cadigan

Basketball
After one of the most shocking and explosive trades in NBA history, superstar guard Russell Westbrook is left alone in Oklahoma City without his sidekick, Paul George. George is coming off of a career season as he was an MVP finalist for the 2018-2019 season. One could say it is crazy to trade a player after they have an MVP caliber season, however the Thunder acquired a plethora of first round picks as well as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who just made the All-Rookie Second Team this past season, and Danilo Gallinari, who is also coming off of a career season (20 PPG, 6 RPG, 3 APG, 43.3 3P%). After this bombshell of a trade, it seems as if the Thunder are looking to start a potential rebuild, and more reports are…

Celtics Update By: Ryan Cadigan

Basketball
Hi. Before I get into this brief update on the Celtics, it is important for me to update the Hot Take Hub visitors as to where we have been. To make a long story short, the majority of us are now finishing up a very busy first year of college. In fact, the original plan was to continue our website full time this summer but the NBA Playoff matchups are too entertaining, and the Celtics are playing too well to not write about. With that being said, expect for a very hectic summer in professional sports, and also expect Hot Take Hub to cover all of it because we are back. Let’s get into it. Gordon Hayward is GOOD. Yes, I said it. The 31 million dollar man is finally…

Why “Next Year” for Buffalo is Realistic By: Paul Edson

Hockey
This offseason, NHL goaltender Carter Hutton got traded from the St. Louis Blues to the Buffalo Sabres. This provides Hutton, who was a serviceable back up in St. Louis, the opportunity to start everyday in the NHL. It reminds me of a move that the Edmonton Oilers made in 2015-16 when they acquired a back up goalie, Cam Talbot, who was stellar in his own right, from the New York Rangers. The Sabres are in the same situation the Oilers were in when they signed Talbot. The 2015-16 Oilers were coming off a season where they had a record of 24-44-14 for a total of 62 points. That left them 28th in the league out of 30. The average age of the team in 2015-16, when they signed Talbot, was…

Hot Take Hub’s World Series Predictions

Baseball
After a 6 month regular season and 3 exciting weeks of postseason baseball, we have arrived at the Fall Classic. It’s East against West, Boston vs Los Angeles. Baseball’s final two teams just needing 4 more wins in order become World Series champions. First, we have the Los Angeles Dodgers, who were one win away last year from winning it all and are back to finish the job this year. After a 16-26 start, the Dodgers went on a tear going 77-43 the rest of the way, winning the NL West. After beating the Atlanta Braves in 4, they beat the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 7 in Milwaukee to advance to the World Series. They have the team to win it this year. They have 3 very good arms in…

NBA Awards Predictions By: Nick Feaster

Basketball
Basketball season has finally arrived. After another offseason filled with superstar players changing teams once again, this year's awards are certainly up for grabs. Here are my predictions for this year's NBA awards.   Coach of the Year: Mike Malone, Denver Nuggets This is a hot take. Picking the coach of the Nuggets is very risky, but can be possible with their talented young core. Led by Nikola Jokic, this team has a lot of good players, including rookie Michael Porter Jr. With LeBron James joining the Los Angeles Lakers, making the playoffs will become more difficult, but I expect a strong season for the Nuggets.   Most Improved Player: Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics Tatum is set for a big sophomore season in the NBA. I believe that his sophomore…

League Championship Series Preview By: Drew Celli

Baseball
Well, the divisional round is over. I think it is safe to say that the 4 favorites won their series (yes the Red Sox were supposed to beat the Yankees). Houston took care of Cleveland, and over in the National League, the Dodgers took care of the Braves in 4 and the Brewers swept the Rockies in 3. The only series with any dramatics was the Red Sox series in which the Sox hung on for a game four win against the Yankees to close the series out. With that said and the series already underway let’s take a look at the ALCS and NLCS.   NLCS: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Milwaukee Brewers The Los Angeles Dodgers are supposed to be here. They were a game away from a World…
